We have set up our Friends of Beech Street (FOBS) group which is a voluntary group of parents, carers, staff and friends providing support to the school through the organisation of events, such as summer fairs, school discos and workshops across the school year.
These events will help the school by raising funds, increasing the diversity of school activities and enhancing community spirit. We will operate as a Friends Association, rather than a traditional PTA, in order to include, alongside parents, carers and school staff, those people living or working in the area who do not necessarily have a direct involvement with the school but who appreciate its importance at the heart of the community and who to wish to support it. We would be very pleased to hear from anyone who would like to get involved with FOBS. There are opportunities to help out either as a committee member or as an occasional helper. Committee members are required to attend meetings that take place termly to help co-ordinate events.
Helper's names are kept on a database and are contacted for their support when an event is taking place. You might be asked to help run a tea and coffee stall or help with decorations for a disco. It might be that you have useful contacts and could help with raffle prizes! Any help is always appreciated and members and helpers benefit from being part of a fun and supportive group.
Our first meeting of the academic year was held on the 16th September, ten parents came along and enjoyed sharing their thoughts and feelings about our school, over a cup of tea and a piece of cake. The meeting was incredibly positive, praising our choice and number of free school clubs and our improved communication. As a result, we are currently putting a leaflet together containing information around reading and how best to support your child.
Thank you for your continued support.
The next meeting will be held on the 15th November 2016.
Our Friends of Beech Street recently held another successful coffee afternoon in support of Macmillan.
Pupils engaged with parents, carers & grandparents getting creative whilst enjoying cake & refreshments.
Altogether, we raised £406.46 for Macmillan.
We look forward to our next event.
